The McNair Scholars Program is a federally-funded TRIO program administered by the U.S. Department of Education striving to prepare talented, highly motivated UNH undergraduates for entrance to PhD programs in all fields of study. The program aims to promote and nurture the next generation of faculty, researchers, and scholars by providing academic and social support services in the form of academic year internships and summer research fellowships.

    McNair alum, Curtis Linton '21, was inducted into the Diversity Hall of Fame on September 27, 2024. He is pictured here with former McNair director, Selina Choate, and 1973 graduate John Laymon, who was the first African American to graduate UNH with an engineering degree.

    Jesus La Paz, from the McNair summer 2024 cohort, presented his research at the annual McNair Scholars Research Conference at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in September 2024.

    Elizabeth Christopher, from the McNair summer 2024 cohort, presented her research at the annual meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists in Rome, Italy in August 2024.

    2019 graduate, Anna Haber just passed her PhD defense at Michigan State University in June 2024. Anna worked with Dr. Robert VanBuren's group at Michigan State, where she used computational genomics to understand the mechanisms by which plants respond to abiotic stress conditions. Anna plans to find work as a computational biologist. Congratulations, Anna!

    2021 Graduate, Bryan 'Red' Landry, just completed an accelerated master's degree in Genetics at UNH. Bryan was recently accepted into the PhD Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He will matriculate this fall, 2024. Congratulations, Red!

Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement programs are designed to encourage high achieving underrepresented undergraduates to consider careers in college teaching as well as prepare for doctoral study.
