Library Student Assistant
Hiring Department: UNH Libraries
Location of position: Dimond Library or three branch libraries on campus (Engineering/Math, Physics, Chemistry)
Hours per week: Varies by department, summer hours typically between 10-37.5 hours per week.   Most departments require at least some evening and weekend hours.
Pay Rate: $8.00

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Hours and duties vary by hiring department - most summer positions typically offer 10-37.5 hours per week.  Computer and software use exists in all positions; experience with Microsoft Excel highly desirable.  Most positions require customer service in person, by phone and/or by email.  Other general duties include shelving, checking order of books on shelves, scanning, clerical tasks and projects as they arise.  Most positions require lifting piles of books, pushing heavy book carts, and bending repeatedly.  All positions require daytime hours; most positions also require night and weekend work.  For more detailed job descriptions and our online application please visit: in the “About Us” section under “Student Employment.”

Student Operator

Dependent on student’s class schedule during the semester. 40 hours per week during summer and semester breaks.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Seeking highly motivated first or second year undergraduate students with career interests in computer science. This position is for full year employment, including semesters and semester breaks.  Student operators will learn and apply many skills including:  Unix/Linux workstation and server setup/admin; Mac and Windows system setup/admin; network admin; database (Oracle/MS Access/SQL Server) design/development; Windows C++/C#/ Dot Net development; web Mod-Perl/DBI/CGI/PHP/JSP/WebSphere HTML design; system backup/tape library admin; Unix C/C++ app development; Unix app support; customer relations.  Students will gain valuable first-hand experience working with the guidance of our staff on current networking and computer technologies.

Telephone Interviewer
