Allergen Friendly Concept

Located at Philbrook Dining Hall. All foods here are prepared exclusively with ingredients that do not contain gluten (barley, wheat, rye) plus the 8 most common food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybean. Fresh prepared selections for Lunch and Dinner feature whole food items including a protein entrée, vegetable, grain, soup, vegetarian chili and two salads. Guests must use an empty, clean plate when approaching the station – no food is to be brought to the station in order to reduce the risk of allergen cross-contact.

Handling Nutrition Concerns

We assist guests who have varying degrees of nutrition needs, from gluten-free diets, to multiple food allergies and intolerances. From menu tags on the service lines outlining potential allergens, to online menus, gluten-friendly zones and an online special meal service, UNH Dining is able to assist.

UNH Slow Food

Slow Food at the University of New Hampshire is a collective effort to educate students, faculty, and the local Durham community about the production, consumption, and enjoyment of foods that are Good to the senses, Clean for the environment, and sold through Fair practices that support local economies. This student-lead group has also joined on with the the national Real Food Challenge and their Get REal! Campaign.

Organic Garden Club

The UNH Organic Garden Club (OGC) is a student-run organization established in 2003. OGC is part of the Food & Society Initiative of the UNH Sustainability Institute, which seeks to create a sustainable food system at UNH and to integrate issues of sustainable food and agriculture into the curriculum, operations, research, and engagement efforts at the University. OGC maintains a two-acre farm on the Campus-Community Farm, a 30-acre USDA certified organic site.

NH Farm to School Program

NH Farm to School (NHFTS) is a statewide program working to connect NH farms and schools. Farm to school connections enable schools to serve healthy, locally grown foods in their cafeterias, integrate farms, food, and nutrition into their curriculum, and explore food and agriculture-based learning opportunities.

The Local Harvest Initiative is a growing partnership of UNH Dining, the Sustainability Institute at UNH, and local producers.

Food Solutions New England

Food Solutions New England (FSNE) is a UNH-based initiative designed to promote food systems that support sustainable farm and food enterprises and sound nutrition in New England communities.

Insect Repellents

Insect Repellents is a resource that describes all the different repellents such as, DEET, Picaridin, Oil of lemon Eucalyptus, Citionella, 2-Undecanone, IR3535, and other repellents that help protect you from mosquitoes, gnats, punkies, no-see-ums, ticks, and other insects.
