You hope that when you get home it will not follow, but it does. You often go to others to talk about your day and how stressful it was. With winter break fast approaching, we will have plenty of time on our hands to eat, sleep, relax, and finally, think about what kinds of things we will want to be involved in for the Spring semester. One thing that you might want to consider is community service! Community service is a great way to spend free time you might have; it is oftentimes very rewarding and can look great on your resume as an added bonus! One program here at UNH that is a very rewarding experience and requires little time commitment is UNH’s chapter of Best Buddies.

I have been a runner for at least 13 years. I grew up running track and cross-country, with my mother as the coach. It was so easy to run 6 or 7 miles at practice when I was on a team, but now that I am in college, I get so bored running alone! After only a mile in, I’m looking to run back to my apartment because I notice myself focusing on my burning legs, or my shortness of breath. I think about how nice a hot shower will feel after I’m done. However, running just a mile just doesn’t cut it for me. I feel like I am skimping on my workout.

Road Races, Running for a Good Cause

Whether you were a track star in high school or just like to jog from time to time, road races are a great way to get physically active while also supporting a good cause. Road races almost always include a wide variety of people, young and old, with faster and slower paces. Even if running is not your favorite activity, most road races also include walkers. Being in a large group of people makes a timed course much less intimidating. The energy of a road race is always so much fun. Everyone is excited and happy to be part of a great event.

A study done by Dr. Nicholas Christakis of Harvard Medical School and Dr. James Fowler of the University of California in San Diego conducted a study on how an individual’s social network affects their happiness levels.
