The weather is getting warmer and everyone is starting to spend more time outdoors, so why not take your workout outside as well? There are tons of things you can do outside to get a good workout in such as running, hiking, cycling, walking, playing a sport, swimming and much more. There are many difference between working out inside versus outside. When you workout inside a gym, usually it is climate controlled, convenient and predictable, which is definitely not the case for working out outdoors.

I’ve always loved to sing. I grew up in a musical family, where we were constantly performing for and with each other. There’s nothing I enjoy more than harmonizing with my siblings. There’s something special about singing in harmony with others—your personal responsibility to hold your own part, while acknowledging others and blending with their voices. It’s an awesome experience to produce a balanced oneness among different voices. It requires practice, patience, and motivation, but the end result is well worth it.

Anxiety is defined as apprehension to an upcoming event and as college students, we have plenty of reasons for having anxiety. Anxiety can stem from an upcoming test, ten page paper, an overflowing to do list or even just finding a parking spot in order to make it to class on time. Symptoms to look for in determining if you suffer from everyday anxiety are things like increased heart rate, lack of concentration in school and work, having issues sleeping or just not being your normal self.

I’ve always loved stretching and meditating. I can attribute this practice to my mom, who teaches Hatha yoga. Growing up, stretching was a part of my daily life. If I were stressed, I would do some stretches and deep breathing to try to calm down. This practice has followed me to college and has helped me calm down many times when overwhelmed with academic and personal commitments. I usually have practiced on my own, but have recently started taking yoga classes downtown at Three Bridges Yoga .

College is a time of great growth for a young adult. Sometimes, you completely lose sight of who you are. Negative thoughts and emotions can flood your mind, making it almost impossible to concentrate on anything truly important. I know first hand how difficult and lost anxiety can make you feel. It can debilitate you to a point where you wake up in the middle of the night shaking and short of breath. I battled anxiety my sophomore year of college and am proud to say that I am now happier than ever. I lost sight of what I wanted out of life.
