  • Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Education

Wellness Educators/Counselors and peer educators are ready to present fun, informational and interactive programs to your floor/hall, Greek house, classroom or group on a variety of topics. We can work with you to provide a program that best meets your floor’s needs and/or interests.

The focus of these programs is to educate on alcohol's interaction with the body, risk levels, how to drink safely, how to avoid problems with alcohol, how to stay sober and negative effects of drug use. Some of our popular topics include:

Women and alcohol (and other drugs):

Alcohol (and other drugs) can affect women differently than their male counterparts. This can make some situations more risky for women. Learn about the differences, and ways to reduce risk while still having fun. Lots of conversation and discussion in this very enlightening program.

What's that drug?

An interactive program designed to educate about different drugs, including over-the-counter, prescription, illicit and even supplements.

Cultural Perspective on alcohol:

How is alcohol used in other countries, how is in involved in religion, rituals and rites? Does the U.S. have a bigger drinking problem because of the drinking age? These and other questions will be explored as we look at how alcohol is used around the world and on our campus.

Here's looking at UNH:

Does UNH deserve its Princeton Review ranking of 7th top party school. UNH data and even student opinion says NO! Come air your thoughts as we take a look at the real UNH.

The Drinking Game:

A fun, interactive game that looks at alcohol and other drug facts, new research and thought provoking questions. It combines education and fun as teams compete for the top prize.

Helping a friend

Most of us will know someone with a drinking problem at some point in our lives. Research supports that it will often happen in college. What can you do to help? Tips, tricks and techniques to help a friend or loved one.

Up in Smoke:

What is the buzz about marijuana? Is it widely used? What are the advantages and risks to using marijuana and what does the current research say?

Where do you stand:

This is a fun and interactive program that looks at where we all stand regarding alcohol and other drug issues, on campus and in life!

Becoming a former smoker:

Learn about what kind of smoker you are, techniques to quit, and different services offered through the UNH Health Services. Receive a quit kit and a some information on meditation. Can be a helpful program for "social smokers" (those who only smoke when drinking or around others who smoke) and for friends and family members too.
