Being Fierce and Fabulous

An empowering, creative, supportive and inspiring group for college women.

"Being Fierce and Fabulous means loving and respecting yourself!" — Group participant

"Being Fierce and Fabulous means being assertive and confident!" — Group Participant

Being Fierce and Fabulous is a women’s group that has been offered at UNH since 2007. The goal of the group is provide women a safe space to explore who they are in order to live lives that are fulfilling emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually.

College is an exciting and transformative time to begin the journey of self-exploration. In the Being Fierce and Fabulous Group, you will have a chance to creatively...

  • Connect with other women and make friends in a safe and confidential environment
  • Reflect on who you are as a unique individual
  • Give volume to your voice to assert your needs and desires
  • Gain confidence in who you are on the inside and outside
  • Develop techniques and skills to nurture yourself
  • Rediscover your already fierce and fabulous self

The group will teach you about the practices of meditation, journaling, assertive communication, affirmations, laughter, community, and creative arts as ways to take care of yourself and continue growing.

Right on! What graduates of Being Fierce and Fabulous have to say about their experience in the group:

  • I loved this group, it is sad to leave.
  • Finding a friend and having someone to talk to was the most beneficial aspect of this group.
  • I learned how to deal with emotions better.
  • As a result of this group, I will be more assertive and cut myself some slack – I don’t have to be perfect.
  • I wish this group was longer!
  • I feel I have knowledge to be happy.
  • I learned a great deal about myself.
  • Hearing from other people really helped me realize I’m not alone and I gained perspective.

The group is created and facilitated by two self-described Fierce and Fabulous Women:

Dawn Zitney

Dawn D. Zitney

Dawn has always had an interest in the ways women come to know themselves and identify with the world around them. Dawn believes self-discovery is essential for women to uncover their personal power and live courageous lives.

Dawn helped create this group with the hope of offering UNH women a safe and inspiring place to learn more about who they are and what they value. She feels honored to help others discover and affirm their already fierce and fabulous selves!

Corey Brown

Corey Brown

Corey is an Expressive Arts Therapist, and believes that discovering our creative sides through experimentation with writing/journaling, art, music and movement, can help a person to understand themselves from a different perspective. And, she believes that ultimately we are our own experts on ourselves. As an alumness of UNH's Women Studies Department, Corey has a sincere interest in women; their sense of self, and relationships with others.

With an open heart and open mind, she affirms the dignity and worth of all people. Corey helped to create this group in hopes of providing the women on campus with an opportunity and a safe space for self exploration and personal growth.
