Bedrock: No rock exposed at surface. Underlying bedrock is Devonian. | |||||
|
Bedrock in a Devonian outlier, the Bellefontaine outlier, made of Columbus Limestone and Ohio Shale, lies at a depth of about 150 feet, in a structural graben. Normal faults, perhaps controlled by Precambrian basement faults along the Grenville front at depth, cut the Paleozoic rocks into fault blocks. The outlier may have been preserved due to greater resistance to erosion of the shales relative to limestones in horsts on either side.
