TESOL Minor
The minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language (or TESOL) is a set of courses that are related to teaching English to speakers of other languages. This minor is primarily for students who are interested in teaching English as a second/foreign language (ESL/EFL) or social work or other professions that require regular interaction with nonnative English speakers. It will also be a good preparation for students who want to later pursue ESL certification or an MA in TESOL at UNH or another institution. This minor will not certify students to teach in NH public schools (K-12). For that purpose, students need to complete ESL certification program which is offered by the Education and English departments.

African American Studies Minor
The African American Studies Minor will provide students with an interdisciplinary approach to a central dimension of U.S. history, literature, and culture. Many aspects of African American experience and self- expression have been central to the development of the United States, highlighting both the nation's problems and its promise, and affecting virtually all areas of academic study through the years, from the humanities to the sciences. The Minor therefore is designed to serve the needs of all students, regardless of their ethnic or cultural background, complementing their work in their major fields of study while serving also as a focused corrective to traditionally marginalized approaches to African American history and culture. The required courses will provide students with a general understanding of the broad and diverse spectrum of African American history, literature, and culture. Electives, independent studies, and/or internships will enable students to develop that understanding in their major fields of study.
