Sustainable Agriculture Apprentice
Help Wanted: Betzold Organic Farms, Inc.
Betzold Organic Farms is a new company, which has just acquired its first Certified Organic Hydroponic farm. The farm is located at 16243 Brighton Drive East, in Loxahatchee (25 minutes due west of West Palm Beach). The owner and CEO is a former investment banker who intends to use this first farm as a model for future Sustainable Agriculture acquisitions.
Position Available: Sustainable Agriculture Apprentice
We are looking for a highly disciplined individual with a strong work ethic who is interested in an entry-level position in sustainable agriculture. Experience in hydroponics or aeroponics is valued but not absolutely necessary. The owner and the designer of the farm’s hybrid systems will train the Apprentice.
Job-Related Performance Requirements:
This role is a dynamic, evolving one that requires a person with high flexibility (open-minded, willingness to change, able to adapt to various situations). In addition, the performer must be highly motivated by helping others and relating with a variety of individuals with a service-oriented natural work pattern. A higher level of responsibility orientation for meeting work role expectations is essential in this role.
This position calls for demonstrated capabilities such as self-management, communications, tasks management, good problem-solving and sound decision-making skills.
Candidates for this role should be in good physical shape. Most work is done either outside or in the greenhouses—which are not air-conditioned. Some days will require physical labor; other days will be less strenuous. Excellent record-keeping skills are also required.
Due to our need for a very clean environment—necessary for maintaining our organic certification—and to keep plant diseases related to tobacco from infecting our crops, smokers need not apply.
Other Qualifications Sought:
Qualified U.S. Veterans are encouraged to apply—If you see our mission of providing healthy food through sustainable organic agriculture as a worthwhile calling, this may be the job for you. Additionally, having carpentry, handyman/handywoman skills, a love of gardening and/or speaking some Spanish would all be helpful skills/characteristics.
Successful completion of this apprenticeship could be a stepping-stone towards promotions and even farm management as the company grows and expands. U.S. Veterans and other highly qualified individuals that excel in this and subsequent roles may even find opportunities to become partners in future farm ventures.
Interested applicants should send a resume and short note expressing why you are interested in this position, along with your contact information, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
