Frost Valley YMCA Farm Camp is looking for a seasonal garden manager to help grow produce and work directly with campers at our resident camp program. April/ May until late September. Housing, food, and a camp community included! Must love working with children and young adults interested in the realm of food and farming.

Farm Camp Educational Garden Manager
Responsible to: Farm Camp Director and Farm Camp Program Director
Classification: Full-time, seasonal, salaried, exempt
Qualifications: Minimum 21 years of age by June 18, 2011. Previous supervisory experience preferred Ability to work long hours, including evenings. Ability to develop positive relationships with campers and fellow staff. Possess strong communication skills and group facilitation. Be able to multi- task and handle a fast paced environment. A basic understanding of children/teens and the ability to develop positive relationships with them. Experience and desire to work with children. Committed to being a part of the Farm Camp team Past experience with organic gardening techniques for production. Independent work ethic and a strong sense of humor. Logistical ability required. A Clean US Drivers License is desirable
This position is directly responsible for designing educational programming and for the care of the 2 acre garden area at the Farm Camp. This includes the management of a hoop house, rows crops, berry crop, and 25 raised beds. Daily activities include teaching gardening classes, maintaining garden areas, and also participating as a member of the overall Farm Camp staff community.
Responsibilities: Plan, design, and implement garden area. Planting, maintaining, and harvesting from the garden. Utilize organic growing techniques, tools, and practices. Create a safe and fun environment for campers in the garden. Maintain a friendly, cooperative, and professional relationship with all staff. Learn new skills and teach them to campers and staff. Coordinate efforts with Farm Camp Property Manager and Farm Camp Director. Cultivate an inviting and engaging learning environment. Work with volunteers to prep the garden during the late spring. Maintain a safe work environment. Perform custodial duties as needed in and around the garden.
Maintain an ongoing list of garden activities and tasks for staff, campers, and
Teaching, training and supervising garden activities.
Implement educational gardening programming; ie food justice, farm to table,
food miles, organic vs. conventional production, urban farming, and food and
garden preparation projects.
Develop and maintain healthy working relationships with Farm Camp Kitchen
staff and meeting the kitchen needs.
Plan and coordinate harvests for Farm Camp kitchen, Closing Day Farmers
Market, and Frost Valley Board of Directors Meeting Luncheon.
Weekly gardening activities including but not limited to: sowing, transplanting,
weeding, watering, fertilizing, harvesting, composting, and pest control.
Create and maintain up to date map of garden and tasks/ projects to be

Be a good role model for campers and staff.
Share your excitement and knowledge about growing food!
