The River School Farm is a working farm, landscape development enterprise, educational center and events venue. We are home to a dedicated group of individuals working to demonstrate, teach and advocate for sustainable living practices in the Truckee River watershed. We grow food year round in our gardens and around Reno. We design and construct landscapes that resonate with the high desert environment and create unique food growing spaces for community residents, schools and businesses. Located along the Truckee River, we offer and ideal space for community gatherings and we provide educational opportunities for local schools and students of all ages. We also offer an event venue for music and dance performances, weddings and celebrations.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced individual to oversee our administrative needs and to coordinate special events and weddings. The ideal candidate is organized, resourceful, driven and enthusiastic about our mission and committed to being a key player in our organization.  This is a full-time position and will require weekend and occasional evening hours. -       Office administrative tasks including but not limited to:

o   Participate in overall operational tasks and strategic planning

o   Develop outreach and marketing materials and handouts for educational programming, landscape development and farm operations

o   Respond to email and phone inquiries

o   Manage office documents and records

o   Organize membership and create content for monthly e-newsletters and social media

o   Update website content and assist with web maintenance

o   Provide administrative support for River School Farm staff

o   Assist with accounting administration

-       Event Coordination responsibilities include:

o   Schedule special events, weddings, and facility rentals

o   Arrange site tours and marketing materials

o   Manage contracts for special events, classes & workshops

o   Serve as the RSF Artown liason and coordinate Artown events and performers

o   Promote and market RSF sponsored events

o   Coordinate the facility preparation and clean up for special events

o   Organize logistics for events and weddings and serve as on-site representative during events

o   Serve as the primary contact for all wedding and special event clients & performers

Key Qualifications:

  •         Bachelor’s Degree
  •       Previous administrative experience
  •       Experience with event production and/or management
  •       Ability to work independently, efficiently and as a team member
  •       Organized, detail orientated and capable of managing multiple tasks
  •       Strong written and verbal communication skills
  •       Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and online communications tools
  •       Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain positive, mutually beneficial relationships
  •       Willingness to work weekend and evening hours, especially during the summer and in conjunction with events and weddings

Additional desired Qualifications:

  •         Quickbooks experience
  •       Familiarity with web site editing (Wordpress)
  •       Experience with graphic design and layout software (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
  •       An interest in local foods and a desire to enhance community resilience through healthy foods and a sustainable lifestyle
  •       Experience working with youth and/or adults in educational programs
  •       Strong interest and/or educational background in wellness, organic agriculture, culinary arts, edible landscapes, environmental education and/or landscape development

Compensation:

 This is a full-time salaried position with an anticipated starting salary of $20,000 - $22,000, dependent on experience. There will be a performance review after a 6-month introductory period at which time the salary will be reevaluated. After one year, the employee is eligible for vacation benefits. The position will begin as soon as the hiring process is complete.

The River School Farm is a community of people that values health, resilience, collaboration and celebration. Some of our staff live on site and we host community events on a regular basis. We share community lunches every day and all staff is expected to participate in cooking and food preparation. We also share cleaning and maintenance responsibilities of community spaces.
