CLiCK is a 501c3 non-profit group dedicated to developing community relationships based on local, healthy food production & consumption for all. The shared-use commercial kitchen will promote economic development through entrepreneurship, providing opportunities for sustaining local agriculture, promoting best practices for food producers and offering co-pack services. Production at this facility will in the future cover a wide variety of products including, sauces, salsas, dressings, marinades, seasonings, beverages, baked goods, jams/jellies, organic foods, frozen or canned fresh produce...etc.
CLiCK will also provide business services through a partnership with CEDF (Connecticut Economic Development Fund, Meriden, CT).
General Job Description – Food Processing Kitchen Manager (KM)
CLiCK is seeking a highly self-motivated, entrepreneurial-minded individual with kitchen production/processing experience to begin the development of our co-operative commercial / processing kitchen. Knowledge of commercial cooking, processing and recipe scale up is a must, as is the ability to work with a wide variety of people in potentially high stress situations. This position requires a person with a positive attitude, high energy level and the ability to multi-task. The KM will handle all aspects of a shared-use kitchen and warehousing operation, engaging directly with farmers and food entrepreneurs of different cultures, overseeing the safe & efficient use of all equipment. The KM will report directly to the CLiCK Board.
In addition, candidates must have a good sense of overall operations management. This means they must be able to co-ordinate all aspects of the organizational operations, including but not limited to : scheduling use of kitchen and building space; coordinating contactor schedules for building upgrade; filing for proper permits; working with other non-profits to ensure partnership arrangements; overseeing finances with help of financial advisor/ Board treasurer; doing outreach, promotion, recruitment of users and publicity; developing social media; and other start up non-profit activities.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Degree in food science or related field; or 10 years experience as a KMExtensive experience in food processing/food service industry/organizational managementPossess knowledge of FDA/USDA rules and regulations for safe food handling and be able to instruct othersBetter Process Control School and Food Safety Certification (Serv-Safe, etc)Ability to develop and follow HACCP plansKnowledge of cooking equipment and skills to maintain good operation conditionUnderstand importance of workplace safety and ability to enforce policies with allAbility to create budgets, financial projections and cost analysesExcellent communication skills, in person and via computerEstablish and achieve benchmark goals set with the CLiCK BoardPublic relations capabilities and marketing skillsKnowledge of QuickBooksExperience with training others, project management, community engagement and small business development desired.Bilingual ability beneficial
Physical requirements: standing/walking/bending/kneeling throughout shift, able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
Employment status: Full-time w/ benefits. Flexible work schedule with occasional weekends/evenings.
Pay Rate: Salary commensurate with experience.
Preference given to those individuals who are currently unemployed.
