Wright-Locke Farm, in Winchester, MA is seeking a Field Assistant for the 2013 growing season.  This is a paid, full-time seasonal position involving a wide range of work from greenhouse growing to market farm operations. It offers a great opportunity to gain vegetable growing experience on a small-scale organic farm.  Working under the direction of the Field Manager, you will learn the operation of greenhouse plant production as well as diversified field production, including succession planting, organic soil management, crop rotation and irrigation.

 Work activities will include:  soil preparation, planting, transplanting, weeding, harvesting and preparation for farmer markets.  This position provides for hands-on experience in greenhouse operation including seeding, propagating, transplanting, grow-out and retail sales. The Field Assistant will also track daily and weekly sales, prepare Organic Certification records and lead sales activities at 1 of 3 farmers markets.

 Position requires a motivated, reliable individual with positive attitude, good work ethic, who wants to learn and is able to take direction and work independently and in teams. Prior experience in organic gardening /farming is a plus but not necessary.  Good communication skills are essential as the position involves working along side volunteers.  An easy going manner and a sense of humor is a must.  Work is all-weather and physically demanding (standing, lifting, bending, carrying).

 This is a 40 hours/week position that runs from the beginning of April through

the end of October.   Some Saturday AM work may be required. Compensation is

$10/hour subject to standard employment taxes.  On-farm lodging is not available.
