Winter Hill Farm in Freeport, Maine, seeks two qualified apprentices for the 2013 year.
We are a small, family-run, diversified farm in midcoast Maine. We milk the very rare breed Randall cows and sell raw milk, yogurt and artisanal cheeses through farmer's markets and stores within 25 miles of the farm. We also raise a flock of about 200 pastured chickens for organic eggs, raise whey-fed, pastured pork, and grow vegetables year round for a seasonal CSA and year round farmer's markets. We seek apprentices with some degree of experience (with animals, preferably) to participate in all aspects of management on our
56 acre farm. This will include milking cows, bottling milk, making yogurt and cheese, feeding and caring for all animals, participation in the vegetable operations, helping to manage pasture rotations in the grazing season, making deliveries to local stores, manning farmer's market stands, and more. We hope to hire two qualified apprentices to start March 1, 2013, and to stay for a full year. For more information, please click please check out our website (www.winterhillfarm.com).
Potential apprentices will apply through the MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) application process. Apprentices will be offered many educational opportunities outside of the farm through the support of and our partnership with MOFGA. Please visit their website for more information
