Serve New York AmeriCorps is one of the largest multi-site AmeriCorps VISTA project in the United States, Serve New York works to fight the injustices and causes of poverty that face individuals and communities throughout New York State. Serve New York mobilizes VISTA members to serve with underperforming schools, low-income communities, and people in need. Members build capacity within partner organizations in four areas: health, housing, education, and employment.

 

Host Site: Broadway Market in conjunction with the B.E.S.T. Community Association

 

Position Description:

The Buffalo Eastsiders Standing Together (B.E.S.T.) community association, a 501c (3) organization, is seeking a VISTA volunteer member to work out of the Broadway Market. The VISTA member will assist in the design and implementation of a community referral center at the Broadway Market and establish an interactive service learning program for neighborhood youth. The position will also involve assisting with program communication, social media, community outreach and general office support.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Develop curriculum materials for Healthy Food demonstrations, and nutrition and science programs for neighborhood youth and adults.

•Conduct outreach to local community, including schools, organizations, and clubs about programs.

•Develop relationships with community agencies, neighborhood block clubs, and faith-based institutions to promote the project.

•Maintain appropriate time records and documentation necessary for program accomplishments.

•Research potential funding opportunities to expand and sustain program activities.

•Assist in maintaining current event calendars.

•Promote project activities through social media.

•Help promote a positive image of Broadway Market and the Market District

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor-level college degree or combination of education and experience working with youth or low-income minority population is preferred. Must hold a valid NYS Driver's License.

 Benefits:

$426.67 living stipend bi-weekly, $5,550 education award of $1,500 cash award
