- Ph.D. Civil Engineering (Environmental), chemistry minor, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA. September 1988.
- M.S. Environmental Engineering, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA. September 1984.
- B.S. Civil Engineering, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA. May 1988. Second B.S. degree obtained upon completion of undergraduate course work taken concurrently with graduate work between 1982 and 1988.
- B.S. Environmental Science, Environmental Chemistry Option, Magna Cum Laude, Cook College, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. May 1980.
Research interests focus on physical-chemical and biological treatment processes for water, hazardous wastes and industrial and municipal wastewaters. On-going research includes dissolved air flotation, membrane filtration, disinfection (chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ultraviolet (UV)) and advanced oxidation processes (ozone, uv-peroxide, peroxone) for drinking water and hazardous wastes. Research strives to integrate fundamental physical chemical and biological principles into practical equations/models for the selection, design and operation of engineered treatment systems.
