About Us

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at the University of New Hampshire.  We are dedicated to chemistry research and education at all levels.  We have a long, proud tradition of providing a challenging and nurturing environment for our students. We were the first department on the UNH campus to offer a Ph.D. degree and the first department to grant Ph.D. degrees to women.  We have 15 faculty dedicated to state-of-the-art research programs that are interdisciplinary and always evolving.  They include programs in sensors, cancer research, chemical education, environmental chemistry, sustainable chemistry, reactive intermediates, polymer chemistry, computational chemistry, nanoscale science, materials chemistry and more.  We house a nationally recognized Nanoscale Science & Engineering Center (funded by the National Science Foundation) and frequently collaborate with our colleagues in biochemistry, materials science, physics and mathematics, to name a few.  We offer competitive teaching and research assistantships for graduate students and many opportunities for highly engaged undergraduates to participate in research.  We excel in teaching at all levels.  Our faculty are consistently recognized for their excellence in teaching through University awards and external recognition.

We invite you to visit us to learn more about us.  You will see first hand how and why we have trained so many outstanding graduates. To arrange a visit, please contact:
