Fundamental laws and concepts applied to nonmetals, metals, and their compounds. Previous chemistry recommended. Knowledge of algebra, exponentials, and logarithms required. Lab. Special fee. Chem 403 is a Prereq for 404; Required for chemistry majors.

 
Chem Principles for Engineers  Chem 405 & 405L   06/23/14-7/25/14  MTRF  8 am-12:30 pm
Basic principles; atomic structure, bonding, equilibria, and thermodynamics. Prereq: one year of high school chemistry, algebra, and knowledge of logarithms. Cannot be taken for credit if credit received for CHEM 403-404. Required for chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, environmental engineering: industrial majors. Not applicable for credit for majors in chemistry or biochemistry. Lab. Special fee

 

Fire and Ice    CHEM 444A  Credits: 4.00   6/23/14 - 7/25/14  MTWR 10 am-noon  
Embodies a focus on the perception, movement, creation, understanding, and everyday use of heat. Examines historical evolution and controversy regarding the concept of heat across physical and life sciences.

 

Organic Chemistry   Chem 545 & 546 (Lab)    05/19/14-06/27/14   MW 10:10 am-Noon; F 10:10 am-1:00 pm, TR labs 8 am-Noon
A one-semester introductory course in organic chemistry, focusing on structure, stereochemistry, nomenclature, reactions and mechanisms. Includes an introduction to biomolecules.  Note: this course is NOT accepted for pre-medical, pharmacology, dental or veterinary students. This course cannot be substituted for the 1st semester of the year-long organic course.  Prereq: CHEM 403 & 404 or 405, Lab; Special fee.

 

Organic Chemistry IChem 651 Credits: 3.00        5/19/14 - 6/27/14    MW 8 -10 am and F 8-11 am
Principal classes of organic compounds, aliphatic and aromatic, class reactions and structural theory. Intended primarily for pre-healing arts, biological science, and health science students. Prereq: CHEM 404; 405;/or permission.  Students receiving credit for CHEM 651-652 may not receive credit for either CHEM 545 or 547-548.
 Co-requisites: CHEM 653 Lab

 (Note: Per Department of Chemistry policy, Chem 651/652 are acceptable substitutes as repeat courses for Chem 547/548. Chem 653 lab is an acceptable substitute as a repeat course for Chem 549 lab. Chem 654 lab is NOT an acceptable substitute as a repeat course for Chem 550 lab for Chemistry and Biochemistry majors who are required to take Chem 550.)
