N.H. Author Series Presents Pulitzer Prize-Winning Poet Sharon Olds April 13

Monday, March 24, 2014

The poet Sharon Olds whose book “Stag’s Leap” won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for poetry will be the featured writer for the next N.H. Author Series at the University of New Hampshire.

Hosted by the Friends of Dimond Library, the event takes place in the library’s 5th floor reading room Sunday, April 13, 2014, at 2 p.m.

“Stag’s Leap,” which is about the breakup of Olds’ 30-year marriage, also won the T. S. Eliot Prize for Poetry. The California native is the first American to win the award. The volume is her 12th collection of poems. Other recent works include “The Unswept Room;” “Strike Sparks: Selected Poems 1980-2002;” and “One Secret Thing.”

The recipient of several other prestigious awards including the National Book Critics Circle Award, Olds, splits her time between Pittsfield, N.H. and New York City, where she teaches poetry and creative writing at New York University.

The NH Author Series, held three times a year, has local author and humorist Rebecca Rule interviewing writers who have ties to New Hampshire in front of a live audience. The event includes an opportunity for questions from the audience and is recorded by New Hampshire Public Television for later broadcast and web streaming at New Hampshire Public Television.

The program is free and open to the public, but seating is limited so registration is encouraged. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, e-mail nh.authors@unh.edu or call 2-1540.
