Chairs Named for Community, Equity and Diversity AVP Search Committee

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Anne Lawing, dean of students, and Alberto Manalo, associate professor of environmental and resource economics and vice chair of the faculty senate, will co-chair the search committee for the associate vice president for Community, Equity and Diversity, a new position President Mark Huddleston announced in his State of the University address Feb. 4.

Referencing members of the UNH Black Student Union who, in 1998, had staged a sit-in in then-president Joan Leitzel’s office, sparking sweeping changes in policies to promote diversity and inclusivity, Huddleston said, “I believe those committed young people would be encouraged to know that we are taking another step to advance that cause by elevating the diversity and inclusion efforts at the university. Specifically, we are set to launch a search for the first associate vice president for Community, Equity and Diversity at UNH. Reporting directly to my office, this person will be responsible for driving all such efforts--for students, faculty and staff.”

The search committee is in the process of being assembled and members will be announced soon.

“We are honored to participate in the selection process for this very important position.  We look forward to working with the selection committee and are optimistic that a new associate vice president for Community, Equity, and Diversity will be in place by fall semester, 2014,” Lawing and Manalo said.
