Eat Local at Stillings, Philbrook, Holloway Tonight

Monday, September 16, 2013

Taste the harvest of the season tonight (Sept. 18) at UNH Dining’s 9th annual Local Harvest Dinner, this year in all three dining halls (Holloway Commons, Stillings, Philbrook). The popular event, open to the public as well as students, features mouth-watering creations produced from local foods. Many local vendors attend with displays, helping diners learn more about the importance of supporting local agriculture and food producers.

Menus feature the bounty of the land (butternut squash ravioli with sage butter, herb-roasted red bliss potatoes), the sea (Atlantic boat hake with saffron lobster cream, smoked salmon and Vermont chevre pizza), and the farm (North Country applewood smoked ham, local honey chipotle chicken, rotisserie grass-fed beef). Desserts are an autumnal celebration: carrot cake, apple crisp, pumpkin bread, maple walnut tea cookies. Some food comes from familiar producers like Stonyfield Farm (Derry), Cabot Cheese (Cabot, Vt.), and Ocean Spray Cranberries (Lakeville-Middleboro, Mass.), while other products are sourced from smaller producers like Bonnie Brae Farms (Plymouth), Bee Rich Apiary (Hudson), and Duane Family Farm (Barnstead).

All three dinners begin at 4:30 p.m. and are free with the UNH meal plan. For others, the dinner costs $18.95 or $10.45 for children from 5 -10 (9 percent meal tax will be added for those without a UNH ID). Learn more at http://www.unh.edu/dining/inform_local_harvest.html.
