Wildcats Sweep Yale in Double Header--4/18

UNH 13 Yale 10

In game one the Wildcats didn’t waste any time getting the bats going scoring two runs in the top of the first.  Artie Patch (Lebanon, NH) led off by getting plunked and advanced to third base when Adam Rosenthal (North Waterboro, Me) got on base via an error. Patch would score on a wild pitch and Rosenthal would score on a ground out to shortstop by Matt Keene (Berlin, NH).

In the bottom half of the inning the Wildcats found themselves in a hole as starter Evan Hall (Barnstable, MA) walked seven Yale Bulldogs in the first inning. The Bulldogs added two hits in the first to take a 6-2 lead after one. In the top half of the second the Cats got right back to work with the sticks. With one out Ben Farina (Plymouth, NH) got hit by a pitch and Dan Solomon (Concord, NH) followed by getting on base via an error. After a Patch walk to load the bases Rosenthal hit a bases clearing double to right center field. He would later score on an error.

Going into the sixth the Wildcats found themselves down 10-6 and responded with four runs. Farina walked for a second time, pinch hitter Dave Maxfield (Lebanon, NH) singled, Patch walked, and Rosenthal singled. The Wildcats had tied the game and had put the game in the hands of Matt Story (Hopkington, NH) who came in relief of Hall. Story shut down the Bulldogs and sparked the Wildcats. With the score tied in the top of the seventh, the Wildcats got some help from Yale. A walk, a hit batter, two defensive errors, and a single by Solomon, lead to a three run seventh which was good enough to give the Wildcats a 13-10 victory.

Story got the win, pitching three innings and giving up three earned runs. Rosenthal who had 3 RBI in game one led the Wildcats offensively.

UNH 5 Yale 1

In game two the Wildcats were led by Farina who threw a complete game; giving up seven hits and one earned run.  In the bottom half of the first, Matt Lane (Waterford, VT) singled advanced to third on a Keene single and then scored on a wild pitch to give the Cats an early lead. In the top half of the third the Bulldogs got a run back off of Farina. Yale drew a walk, stole a base and then got the run in on a single, but that is all the offensive success Farina would allow for the Bulldogs. UNH took the lead right back in the bottom half when Lane hit his second single of the day, advanced to second on a wild pitch and was drove in on a single by Keene. The Wildcats would conclude their offense in the fourth when Patch hit a scorching triple down the left field line scoring Kevin Gusciora (Stoughton, MA) who drew a walk.  Rosenthal then singled Patch in and after swiping second base Lane singled Rosenthal in.

The wildcats swept the double header with offensive help from Rosenthal (3-8, 4 RBI) and Lane (3-4, RBI).

Wildcats vs Emmanuel (DH) 4/4-

Game 1
UNH baseball opened the Spring season hosting The Emmanuel College Saints of Boston. In the top of the first starter Adam Brammer (LIttleton, NH) found himself in a tight spot having one out and the bases loaded. Brammer fought off the next two Emmanuel  hitters to retire the side.
In the bottom half the Wildcats wasted no time getting to work. Jeff Jordan (Rochester, NH) lead off with a single, followed by a Matt Casey (Londonderry, NH) walk and with two on Adam Rosenthal (North Waterboro, ME) dropped down a bunt to load the bases. Matt Keene (Berlin, NH) followed suit and hit a 2 RBI single to right field driving in Jordan and Casey.

In the second Brammer struggled to find the zone in his first start as a Wildcat as he walked in 6 runs. Evan Hall (Barnstable, MA) came in to relieve Brammer and walked in two more runs, but it was too little too late for the Wildcats; they would chip away at the lead, bringing it to 8-5 going into the home half of the seventh. Guy Pederzani (Nashua, NH) came up with two outs, two on, and one run already in, and smacked a double to the left center gap scoring one more to bring the deficit to 8-7. With the tying run on third and the winning run on second, Artie Patch (Lebanon, NH) grounded out to first base to end the Wildcat's hopes of  completing the comeback. Brammer took the loss for the Wildcats, Tyler Norton got the win for Emmanuel.

Game 2
After coming up just short in Game 1, the Wildcats took it to the Saints scoring in every inning. The wildcats spread 7 runs over the course of the game. Offensively the Wildcats were lead by Patch who went 3 for 3; But the story of the game was starting pitcher Ben Farina (Plymouth, NH) who pitched 6 no-hit, shut out innings and lead the wildcats to victory. Artie Patch came in to close the game out in the 7th, sealing the shut out and the 7-0 victory

The Wildcats were lead offensively by Rosenthal (5-5, 2 walks, RBI), Patch (3-5, 2 RBI) and Keene (2-5, 5 RBI).
