****GAME TIME CHANGE****
Sunday doubleheader vs NHTI will start at 12:00 instead of 11:00am

UNH @ Boston College (DH)-- 4/19

UNH 6  Boston College 4

The Wildcats continued their 5 game winning streak in Brookline, Massachusetts on Sunday April 18 taking on the Boston College Eagles.  Freshman Tim Taylor (Londonderry, NH) gave the Cats a quality start, throwing five innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out four.

The Cats got some good base running early when Matt Lane (Waterford, VT) took a free pass and then swiped second and third base. Following an Adam Rosenthal (North Waterboro, ME) walk, Dan Solomon (Concord, NH) squeezed Lane in to give the Cats a 1-0 lead. Rosenthal, who advanced to second on the squeeze, scored on a Jeff Jordan (Rochester, NH) single to right field.

The Eagles didn’t waste much time, getting one run back in the bottom half of the first, but the Cats would increase the lead in the third.  With one out Rosenthal hit a shot to left center field that scored Lane. Rosenthal would go on to score on an error hit up the middle by Matt Keene (Berlin, NH) and Keene would score when Jordan hit a grounder to the pitcher, who threw it over the first baseman’s head and out of play.

UNH held a 5-1 lead going into the fifth but Boston College was determined to chip away at the four run deficit.. After two quick outs the Eagles got to work; Doug Bradford lined a double to left center and was followed by a Dan Schmitz home run. Schmitz, who threw all seven innings for BC, kept the Wildcat batters at bay in the sixth. In the bottom half Boston College got back to work when Tyler Rogers led off with a single, Steve Crupi followed and was plunked by Wildcat relief pitcher Artie Patch (Lebanon, NH). Catcher Scott Keenan (Jaffrey, NH) tried to pick off Crupi at first but threw it past Keene, which allowed Rogers to score.  BC now had the tying run at third base with one out.  Patch then struck out Cliff Baratta and got Tom Vautour to ground out to end the threat.

UNH got some insurance in the seventh when Lane hit a fly ball to right field scoring Jason Labranche (Tilton, NH) who doubled to lead off the inning. In the bottom half Patch would give up a lead off hit to Bradford but would settle down and retire the next three Boston College hitters to preserve the New Hampshire win and get his first save of the season. The Wildcats finished the weekend winning all three contests between Yale and Boston College and will pick up play Saturday against Boston College at 11:00 am at Pickering Field in Newington for a double header.
